“Bye Felicia!”

 – How to Wave a Basic Bitch Goodbye.

There are always a bunch of memes and internet trends going around. A while back we had people posting #YOLO to every single picture on Instagram and at the end of every tweet. It was so overused, and got to a point where people would actually do stupid sh*t just to be able to post the hashtag. Seriously, riding in a supermarket cart down a hill is not “YOLO”, it is just stupid. Expressions like this, that become popular; we all just start using without actually knowing where they came from, like the origin of “YOLO”. The term was actually coined by rapper Drake, which he later apologized for while hosting SNL, saying: “I didn’t realize your annoying friends and co-workers would use it so much, my sincerest apologize.” Thank you Drake, the damage has unfortunately already been done, but we appreciate the sentiment.
I can’t really remember when I first came across the meme “Bye Felicia”, but I know I didn't put too much thought into it since I kind of understood the overall intention of the meme. But recently the meme has been popping up all over my internet feed, and I started asking the question; “Who is this Felicia?” So I decided to do some research.
“Bye Felicia” is used, according to the Urban Dictionary; “When a random bitch that nobody is sad to see go is leaving, so her real name becomes irrelevant because nobody cares what it really is.”

The expression comes from the movie “Friday” where Ice Cube’s female neighbour tries to borrow his car and score some weed. When Ice Cube refuses to give it to her she leaves, and while she is leaving he says; “Bye Felicia” without making any eye contact, without giving a single damn.
In other words, “Bye Felicia” is the perfect phrase to use when you want to wave goodbye to that random basic bitch you feel is not worth your time. Is it mean? Yeah, probably. Is it funny? Sure it is. Is it useful? Hell yes! It is a very discreet way of insulting someone, especially if the other person has no idea of what “Bye Felicia” really means; you pretty much have a bullet proof way of getting away with calling someone a nobody.
